Havelock Garden Restaurant, Havelock ON (pop. 1,300). On the road to Peterborough, to visit my mum in the Hospital. I always get a kick out of the "Chinese and Canadian food" proclomations on so many small-town Chinese restaurants. Just what exactly qualifies as "Canadian" food these days anyways... Poutine? Donairs? Oka cheese? Beaver tails?
On the personal tip, Carla and I are back at my mum's again; we'll be here until Sunday. My mum's got the pneumonia pretty much licked, but we're not out of the woods yet. With her recovering nicely from the pneumonia, they were finally able to give her a colonoscopy and look in to that
undetermined bowel problem I mentioned the other day. Well, it's no longer undetermined. It's fucking colon cancer.
Thankfully at least, it looks like it hasn't spread. And as things stand now, we're told the prognosis is pretty good. They're scheduling her for surgery once she's gained some more strength back; possibly in a couple of weeks. But as if my poor mum hasn't been through enough already -- she's just getting over the pneumonia, and now she has to face losing a chunk of her bowels and having a colostomy. Although hopefully that will only be temporary to allow her bowels time to heal.
But mum's a real trooper, and she's got a positive outlook. She going to end the family streak and beat this one. Kick its ass right up and down the block, so to speak. I know she will.
I've gotta fucking quit smoking.
