Man / Click for Previous
Well, it's Photo Friday time again. Two weeks ago the theme was woman, this time it's man. Interesting way to bookend the motion challenge I think.

More work, more cold weather. It's hard to get any decent shots off when you're limited to smoke breaks for photo-hunting. Even more so when you don't even wan't to go outside in the first place. Now granted, there's no rule that says you have to post your photo on the Friday itself -- but whenever possible I prefer to give it a try. Both just for the challenge itself and to have an excuse to regularly shoot.

I couldn't find anything in my archives that I really felt like submitting, so I figured I'd stay with the trend and try to get the shot today. So, when I went out to have a smoke with my friend and co-worker Jordan, I took the opportunity to fire off a few shots of him while we froze our asses off outside. Ah, the life of an addict.

This was shot in colour mode on-camera, spot-metered off his left cheek, underexposed by two stops, and then converted to B&W in Photoshop. It was already a very contrasty image thanks to the harsh afternoon winter light, so I upped it by 30% to really bring out the effect.

Unrelated Update: The Lab called today to let me know the pack of Portra 160VC I ordered had arrived -- and they said they'd throw in two of the rolls for free to make up for the two that got jammed in their machine. My faith in them has been restored!
