This week's
Photo Friday challenge was a tough one for me. This is only my second stab at it, and so far I've been trying to actually shoot the photo on the day itself. Easier said than done when you're stuck inside at work all day, and outside it's -38 with the windchill...
Nevertheless, I still had a lot of fun with this one. I just brought my Coolpix around with me in my jacket whenever I had a smoke break, and on my way back home at the end of the day. I tried a few different techniques; slow shutter speeds, moving the camera, etc. -- all to try and either create some "good" motion blur, or otherwise emphasize the movement in a scene.
Sounds easy right? Wrong. At least it wasn't for me. Far from the desired effect, most of the shots just ended up looking like accidents or unintended camera shake.
Just as I was about to give up in disgust, I took one final shot of some folks heading on in to Bloor station. I swept the camera up in an arc before the exposure was finished, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best. I didn't even check the preview before putting it in my backpack and heading for the subway. When I finally got home, to my pleasant surprise it actually turned out kinda cool. And so there you have it. All's well that ends well I guess.
